Tampa Bay Wrong-Way Driver Facing DUI Charge

A wrong-way driver is facing a DUI with property damage charge after he was involved in a crash on Bearss Avenue early Thursday morning.

Deputies believe the 45-year-old was traveling eastbound on Bearss Avenue in the westbound lane of traffic at approximately 12:45 a.m.

At the same time, deputies said another vehicle was traveling westbound on Bearss Avenue and saw the man’s 2015 Toyota Tacoma traveling toward them going the wrong way.

Deputies claim the driver veered left into the median to avoid the man’s vehicle, but at the last minute the man veered right and the two vehicles collided in the median.

There were no injuries.

If you or someone you care for were involved in a DUI accident in the Tampa Bay area, this is a very serious offense. A DUI charge usually means hefty fines, driver’s license suspension, a spike in insurance fees, the possibility of  installment of an Ignition Interlock Device and even potential jail time. However, being charged with a DUI does not mean your case is hopeless. The right criminal defense attorney can make all the difference in your case.

Despite the exact charges stacked against you, you do have the right to fight the charges against you, and DUI cases can be won. A Tampa Bay DUI Defense Lawyer at Whittel & Melton will be able to spot any inconsistencies in your case, weakness in the prosecution’s evidence as well as law enforcement’s failure to follow protocol. There are many different scenarios that can lead to having the charges you are facing lowered or dismissed entirely.
